The top three security features of our doors

When you’re looking for a new door, there are a number of deciding factors that help you choose the one that’s best for you. The kind of things you might take into account include the look and design of the door or how thermally efficient it is. Above all, you should put some thought into the security of a door. It goes without saying that a door is the main barrier between your home and the outside world, so it’s important that you have peace of mind knowing your door is secure.

To help you, here are our top three security questions answered.

What is a multi-point locking system?

The locks you have on your doors can vary in quality and build strength, but we make sure ours excel in both aspects. For example, our aluminium bifold doors use a unique 8-point locking system complete with 20mm linear bolts and 25mm security hooks to ensure your home is protected. This type of multi-point locking system means that your door is locked at more than one point around the frame, eight in this instance, for enhanced security.

Our uPVC doors and composite doors also both feature their own multi-point locking systems from Winkhaus Autolock to Winkaus Heritage Autolock, our security systems have safety in mind. Winkhaus Autolock is a locking system that operates on a slam lock as soon as the door is closed and reduces the risk of potential ‘tailgating’ as it is known. The Winkhaus Heritage Autolock, on the other hand, is located at a similar height to a traditional round cylinder pull (eye-level). This provides instant higher security as the lock is operated automatically as soon as the door is closed.

Rest assured that our locking systems carry the Police’s Secured by Design (SBD) accreditation. But what does that mean for you? Well, it means that our products have obtained police recognition for security-related products, giving you peace of mind that you and your family will be safe and sound from any unwanted intruders.

How strong are your doors against unwanted intruders?

We all want to keep our home safe, don’t we!? Beyond the locking mechanisms, the door itself must also be secure, meaning it can’t be easily broken in order to gain entry. Whether you want a uPVC, aluminium, or composite door, any door from Halstead Glass is made with the strongest of materials. Modern uPVC is sturdier than it has ever been before, whilst our aluminium doors are crafted from high-grade aluminium for reliability and longevity. Composite doors, on the other hand, are perhaps the best option of all when it comes to strength and durability as they’re made from an accumulation of timber and uPVC which make them near enough impossible to force through.

Are your doors PAS 24: 2012 certified?

If the doors themselves aren’t enough, you should look for approval from elsewhere. There are multiple seals of approval given to doors from Halstead Glass which should set your mind at rest. For example, yes, our doors are certified to the PAS 24: 2012 standards.

But what is PAS 24: 2012 and what does it mean for me? Holding this accreditation demonstrates that our doors have passed rigorous security testing and assessments in three key areas: security, weather resistance, and endurance, ultimately giving you the peace of mind that our doors meet the quality benchmark.

The great news is that our doors also come with a 10-year warranty! So, if in the rare event that your doors are not performing as they should be, contact us and we’ll help.
